I spent a good portion of the weekend reflecting and mourning over the tragedies that occurred over the weekend, asking why the world has become such a horrible place. As I prayed for peace to come to us, I also remembered that during these tragic events, we often forget about the progress that we’ve made and the people who continuously protect us again these acts of violence, hatred, or invasion. We need to remember that with great progress, we will always be faced with great retaliation for which we need to stand united against. I hope that the terrible events that have happened in the last weeks (and years) will not make us turn against each other in fear, but instead towards each other for support and guidance. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the act of hatred in Orlando, to the family and friends of Christina Grimmie, to the survivor and her supporters in the Stanford assault case, to all Muslims in the U.S. who now have another unwarranted road block ahead of them, and to many more unknown tragedies. There are good people out there and we are with you.
